LEVEL 2

Music Studies encompasses the learning of conventions used in the creation of music. It looks at musical scores,musical theory analysis of music works and a closer look at NZ music . This is done in conjunction with composition. As the whole course is taught holistically, all aspects of the Music Studies stream will be covered, but may not be assessed - depending on the course selected.

2.6 (91276) Demonstrate knowledge of conventions in a range of music scores.
​Music conventions relates to elements of music theory typically found in grades 3-5. These will be taught in the context of all your learning throughout the year but will be assessed at the end of year in one exam.  Practice exams will be given throughout the year.

2.7 (91277) Demonstrate understanding of two substantial contrasting music works
 This will be assessed by means of assessment activities designed for each work you study. There will be a number of tasks in each assessment activity. Each assessment activity will contribute towards your final assessment for the achievement standard.
2.9  (91278) Investigate an aspect of New Zealand music.
An area of New Zealand music will be investigated in some detail. This will coincide with New Zealand Music Month and also be taught holistically alongside 2.4, where one of the compositions will be writing for the Play it Strange competition.
