LEVEL 3

Music Studies encompasses the learning of conventions used in the creation of music. It looks at musical scores, listening and aural transcription, musical theory, and arranging - which is an alternative to composition for those with a heavy performance load. 

3.6  (91421) Harmonic and tonal procedures in music.

An external achievement standard that involves learning musical theory in the context of selected scores.

3.8 (91423)  Examine the influence of context on a substantial music work
You will study a selection of music works or a major work and examining the context in which it was written/performed etc and how this influences the expressive qualities of the music. It will be assessed formatively in as a series of formative assignments. An overall grade will be based on the evidence gained from these assessments.
3.9 (91424)  Create two arrangements for an ensemble.
This achievement standard involves arranging two pieces of music for an ensemble of at least three independent parts, one purely instrumental and the other involving at least one vocal line. Your grade will be based on a summative assessment of all your submitted arrangements.
3.10 (91425) Research a music topic.

This will be assessed by means of a research project (presentation of which can vary depending on the topic). You will be guided through the focussing of topic selection, research gathering and presenting of final project.
