MAKING MUSIC
All performance and composition assessments fall under the Making Music category. Performing and creating music underpins the entire music programme. It may not end up being the main focus for some students, but it is present in every aspect of the music course. Students will be given the opportunity to work individually and in collaboration with other students.
LEVEL 1
1.1 (91090) Perform two pieces of music as a featured soloist
Students will be given three assessment opportunities in which you will present two contrasting pieces. The performance must demonstrate technical, musical, and presentation skills appropriate to students in at least their third year of instrumental study through group itinerant tuition. Each piece of music must be of sufficient length to demonstrate these skills. The students tutor will also be given the performance dates and information about the assessment criteria and expectations) 1.3 (91092) Compose 2 pieces of original music
This will be an ongoing process and will require students to keep a portfolio of all your draft workings and photocopies of your completed assessment activities. A completed portfolio will contain working drafts, a notated score and recordings of completed pieces. |
1.2 (91091) Demonstrate ensemble skills through performing a piece of music as a member of a group.
Ideally, a group should comprise 3-7 members. Each performer must play a separate or uniquely identifiable part. Students must select music to ensure ensemble skills are required of all performers being assessed. The ensemble skills must be appropriate to at least a third year of instrumental study through group itinerant tuition. Your teacher and instrumental tutor can help with the selection of a piece. You will be assessed when your group is ready and will perform one of the concert dates. 1.4 (91093) Demonstrate aural and theoretical skills through transcription.
