What is involved in each assessment
All performance and composition assessments fall under the Making Music category. Performing and creating music underpins the entire music programme. It may not end up being the main focus for some students, but it is present in every aspect of the music course. Students will be given the opportunity to work individually and in collaboration with other students.
LEVEL 1
1.1 (91948) Use music skills in a music style
Students will be given the choice of three assessment tasks to demonstrate their music skills. 1. Recreating a 'beat' using aural skills and DAW application. 2. Listening to a piece of music and either transcribing it on paper, or playing back on their chosen instrument 3. Study a music score and conduct a small ensemble. 1.3 (91950) Demonstrate understanding of music in relation to context
Students will be given the tools to study two pieces of music - one from a Māori context and the other from their own choice. They will compile a short report that discusses the context of the music and significant musical elements. The final submission is assessed externally at the end of term 3. |
1.2 (91949) Demonstrate music performnce skill.
Students will be given three assessment opportunities in which they will perform either individually or as a group. The performance must demonstrate technical, musical, and presentation skills appropriate to students in at least their third year of instrumental study through group itinerant tuition.
